Kitchen Organization
Kitchen organization sounds like the biggest, most unpleasant
chore that anybody could be punished with. You may find yourself running a household and finding that your kitchen
has simply become unmanageable. It may be that you are in the middle of a rigorous clean where you want the entire
house to be rid of junk, clean and with lots of free space to move around in and enjoy. Maybe it’s just time for a
change but whichever way you slice it, kitchen organization is a project that you need to tackle.
Firstly, you should start with your immediate environment. Look
around the kitchen when it’s at its messiest. Are all of those items things you need in the home? Take this time to
throw away ugly mugs that you have been given on a company retreat or glasses that aren’t special to you. You never
need as many as you think you do and charities are always grateful to have a helping hand. Then do the basic
cleaning. This will involve your everyday chores in the kitchen. Do the dishes, wipe down the counter and tidy the
window sill.
Once the place is basically clean go through each cupboard and
look for ones that look fuller than others. Once you’ve identified a problem area, empty out the entire cupboard.
You will often find there is junk in there from years ago and even if that is an exaggeration, you will still want
to get in there to clean. Once that cupboard is clear allocate it for specific things, like glasses and mugs.
If you still find that you have them in abundance, place the glasses inside the mugs. Next is the messy spice rack.
Take everything off of it and give it a rinse.
Put back the spices you use most often and put the others in
the pantry. You will know where to find them when the time comes. If there are any empty bottles, throw them away!
Or if some bottles have a bit left at the bottom, use that to top up a complimentary spice. You might want to bring
in a corner unit to house your pots and pans and to free up an empty cupboard for all of those things that you keep
on the counter that need to be put away. Things like small appliances, toasters, soup packets and cutlery do not
always have to be on display. Take them out when you need them.
Kitchen organization is something that can only be done
effectively if you are willing to part with things, work hard and use your creative abilities to transform empty
ice cream trays into spice racks. You have to be willing to do all of these things or else you are never really
going to free up that space. Don’t neglect your pantry. That is one of the first things that need to be organized
and sorted out. There are a number of useful aids in pantry organization and these need to be used before
anything.
